Degree structure
Bachelor's degrees usually take four years (longer for some medical programmes), master's degrees two to three years, and doctoral degrees three to four years. Many universities also offer non-degree Chinese language programmes.
Intakes
Most degree programmes begin in September, with some spring intakes. Applications often open months in advance — check each university's current window.
Language of instruction
Most programmes are taught in Chinese; English-taught options exist in selected fields. Read Chinese-taught vs English-taught degrees.
Student visa
Degree students generally enter on an X1 visa using the university's admission notice and the JW201/JW202 form, then convert it to a residence permit after arrival. Confirm current procedures with the Chinese embassy or visa centre in your country.
Living costs
Costs vary widely between cities such as Beijing or Shanghai and smaller provincial cities. Use university-published accommodation fees and your own research rather than averages.
For Pakistani students
Plan time for HEC and board attestation, police character certificates and medical examinations. For regulated fields like medicine, confirm recognition with PMDC before applying.
